Professional Teeth Whitening in Melbourne

At Toorak Fine Dentistry, we offer the effective Phillips Zoom and Pola Whitening systems to help brighten and whiten the teeth of our patients. When it comes to teeth whitening, there are two ways to whiten your teeth:

  • In-chair teeth whitening
  • Take home whitening

Both methods are safe and effective. The in-chair teeth whitening procedure is a quick one-hour session and does not require you to do anything but sit and relax. The take home procedure involves taking a mould of your teeth to make customised trays. The whitening gel is placed in the trays and is worn at night. The trays are worn every night until the desired shade is achieved (typically 1-3 weeks).

When you arrive for teeth whitening, our Toorak dentist will ask which treatment you would prefer.
They will discuss both options and assess your suitability for each.

In-Chair Teeth Whitening

With in-chair teeth whitening, you can attain a smile up to 8 shades whiter in just 45 minutes. This system can produce outstanding results in a single visit thanks to the strong whitening ingredients used to complete the treatment.

At Toorak Fine Dentistry, your treatment starts with our teeth whitening dentist in Melbourne checking your current shade so that we can compare before and after whitening treatment. We hope that you will see a dramatic difference after your treatment is complete.

The in-chair teeth whitening procedure consists of applying a gentle Hydrogen Peroxide whitening gel onto the teeth which is then exposed to a special Xeon-Halogen light source. This can be done in one easy and convenient appointment. The Xeon-Halogen light source offers a unique benefit, as it delivers an optimal bandwidth of 350-530nm for the acceleration of photochemical decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide, the main activator in teeth whitening. A special liquid filled light guide transmits all the light energy, eliminating all of the heat and making our laser teeth whitening in Melbourne a cool and comfortable procedure which whitens teeth in about one hour. We also provide you with customised trays to continue your whitening at home, which prevents the relapsing to your previous colour.

Take Home Whitening Kits

If you decide to go ahead with a take home whitening kit, our teeth whitening dentist in Melbourne will make you a customised tray that fits your teeth and gum line perfectly for safe and effective results. Take home whitening kits are a safe and convenient way to get your smile noticeably whiter in one to two weeks when used correctly. You should see professional results with little to no sensitivity.

To ensure you have a safe and comfortable experience, all of our teeth whitening treatments start with a consultation. Our dentists will prescribe the most suitable teeth whitening kit for you and answer any questions you may have. You’ll then be fully armed with the knowledge to safely and effectively whiten your smile at home.

Tips for Achieving the Best Whitening Results

After getting teeth whitening in Toorak, your enamel can become more absorbent, acting like a sponge. This means that foods with a high concentration of colour such as coffee, berries, curry and tomato sauce can be absorbed into the enamel, reducing the effect of your whitening. We therefore recommend avoiding anything that would stain a white t-shirt for 48 hours after your last whitening treatment.

Here’s a list of things to avoid:

  • Tobacco
  • Coffee and tea
  • Red wine
  • Lipstick
  • Coloured soft drink
  • Berries
  • Curry
  • Beetroot
  • Red or brown sauces e.g. Bolognese
  • Tomato sauce
  • Any fruit with colour
  • Soy sauce

After your whitening treatment, you may notice that your teeth are more sensitive to cold temperatures. This can last for up to 48 hours after your last whitening session. To reduce this, we recommend our patients use a sensitive toothpaste for 2 weeks prior to their in-chair teeth whitening appointment or before commencing a take home whitening treatment. Continuing to use a sensitive toothpaste for the days following whitening can also alleviate sensitivity.

Over time, the results of your whitening will fade. At Toorak Fine Dentistry, we recommend take-home whitening trays for all whitening patients so you can top up your result in the months to come from the comfort of your home. Like anything, your white smile needs maintenance to keep it fresh and healthy. This includes twice daily brushing and flossing, avoiding certain staining foods and drinks, and attending regular professional dental check-ups to maintain good oral health.
